- WISSMACH GLASS
- The Paul Wissmach Company has been making glass since 1904. They make the largest selection of colored glass in the world. They make several varieties of glass including; cathedral, opalescent, and wispy opalescent.
CATHEDRAL GLASS - describes a glass that is transparent in nature and usually monochromatic. It can be relatively smooth (double rolled) or textured (granite, ripple, etc.).
OPALESCENT GLASS - commonly described as the addition of a cathedral color added to an opal base at the time of manufacture. Creates a varying color range within the sheet of glass and is characterized an opaque density ideal for diffusing light.
WISPY GLASS - a lighter addition of opal to the manufacturing process resulting in a combination of color, opal and clear. The glass is not quite as opaque as opalescent, but still provides obscurity.
MYSTIC GLASS - Celebrating their Centennial anniversary, Wissmach has produced a new type of glass called Mystic. Essentially a streaky cathedral with faint wisps of opal running through it to make the cathedral colors hazy. The glass has a loose wavy surface texture, much like their Victorian Mottle, with a slightly stippled texture on the back to create mild obscurity. The glass looks hand-rolled with the colors rich and old world looking. This is great glass for restoration work or for making Victorian style windows.
ENGLISH MUFFLE - English Muffle glass is known for its muted traditional colors, its highly refractive texture and crystalline quality. The texture appears as a non-directional ripple, allowing for a minimal ammount of waste.
